About the Department: The Equal Opportunity Office serves faculty, staff, and students in ensuring that the campus climate is free from all forms of discrimination, including sexual harassment and sexual violence. About the Position: This position serves as a critical member of the Equal Opportunity (EO) Office team and is a managerial level position that provides institutional support and facilitation for matters related to EO-related training, educational programs, and communication. This includes leading and managing multiple education and training programs and projects in furtherance of Western’s equal opportunity and affirmative action obligations and commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Manager, EO Training and Communications conducts training, and provides specialized support to advance additional EO Office functions in furtherance of these objectives. The position serves as the subject matter expert regarding the development and delivery of these programs and works collaboratively with campus partners to proactively provide consistent, accurate, and reliable training, education, and communication to the campus community.
- Apply specialized civil rights knowledge, conduct research, and interpret federal and state equal opportunity and affirmative action laws/guidance in all aspects of position functions.
- Manage on-going curriculum development and delivery of search committee training regarding equal employment opportunity and affirmative action for all stages of the hiring process for professional staff and faculty searches; provide broad consultation and guidance on classified searches. This training includes discussion of implicit bias and proactive outreach and recruitment methods.
- Provide consultation to search committee chairs, Department Chairs, managers, and supervisors about best practices in conducting an equal opportunity and affirmative action compliant search in accordance with state and federal mandates and to advance the university’s mission to increase diversity.
- Develop, manage, and implement outreach programs for women, minorities, people with disabilities and veterans; coordinate, develop and implement strategic programs for these groups by working with community contacts to enhance workforce diversity in accordance with the university’s mission and federal and state laws.
- Manage on-going development and delivery of all EO-related training programs, including mandatory sexual harassment prevention training (SHPT) required for all permanent faculty and staff. This includes conducting training, updating curriculum (per new court findings), evaluating training, and developing and implementing refresher courses.
- Serve as lead trainer for equal opportunity compliance and diversity-related training, including developing curriculum, facilitating training, and evaluating training within the context of civil rights laws/regulations and University policies.
- Manage information dissemination and marketing plan for EO Office, per compliance requirement for broad information dissemination of EO and AA non-discrimination rights and responsibilities.
- Produce and distribute quarterly newsletter; develop publications regarding legal compliance and best practices; prepare articles for university media; develop informational handouts; and develop/update content for the EO Office website.
- Serve as liaison to students on equal opportunity and employment diversity related issues by managing programmatic efforts designed to inform, educate, and assist the student/faculty community regarding equal opportunity and employment diversity matters.
- Conduct legal and other research and develop narrative, statistical and visual reports on equal opportunity, affirmative action, and employment diversity topics, to include: legal developments and their implications; ADA architectural access issues; and other topics requested by the Vice Provost to further the EO Office’s mission.
- Utilize specialized knowledge to respond to a variety of civil rights protected group issues and inquiries from campus community regarding equity; recommend to Vice Provost policy and programmatic efforts to further Western’s strategic commitment to inclusion and in line with following best practices regarding legal compliance.
- Perform other specialized duties as required in support of the EO Office.
Salary: $59,670 - $69,615 based on experience; includes a full benefits package.
